my little pony fanart plus kitty-tiger obsession
zie spent the beginning of august in the psych ward. while this wasn’t zie first hospitalization, it was the first time zie advocated for zieself. from being in the ER to then being moved to the psych ward, zie adamantly kept demanding to keep one of zie sketchbooks on hand as a way to emotionally regulate.
zie made a bunch of drawings because zie was proud of zieself for being a self advocate.

zie managed to snag one of those half ballpoint pen thingys and placed it in zie scrubs pocket
this ballpoint pen became zie lifeline for making art. zie also had access to dried out skinny markers and crayola twistable colored pencils. working with the crayola twistables was so difficult: they have poor color lay down and are hard to layer with.
so the ink was doing most of the heavy lifting with these drawings. thankfully, zie channeled zie highschool self who was truly one with pen and ink. 😁
zie got to paint with REAL acrylics at the hospital! 🥳🥳🥳 thanks to med tech mr. anthony who is also an artiste
most psych wards zie has been to either have only finger paint that can only be used for one group/class or they don’t have paints at all. in fact, one facility zie was sent to didn’t have any art supplies at all. that was a nightmare.
so when mr. anthony brought out a few colors of apple barrel acrylic paints and bee inspired watercolor paper, zie squealed happily. zie painted a kitty kat that was originally supposed to be a tiger.
this was the start of something big.
zie leapt into the rabbit hole of making tiger/kitty paintings 🐅🐈
sandi hester often mentions painting the same subject multiple times as a way to esperiment and esplore it. since zie has been making art daily this year, zie has been esploring various subjects. this tiger-kitty obsession spawned three new paintings.
a very fun week indeed. zie esplored the orange-green-purple triad of this subject as well as metallic accents and vibrant mistures. zie used a combination of himi miya gouache, prismacolor scholar pencils, faber-castell polychromos pencils, and winsor & newton watercolors on sheets of stretched bee inspired watercolor paper to create this series.
zie hopes to make more kitty-tiger paintings in the future.
