how to make sure the himi gouache stays moist and not mold
since zie has been at zie parent’s house, mumzie has given zie lots of art supplies she has been meaning to give to zie for awhile now. it truly feels like a celebration!
Â
this article is a guide on how to make the himi gouache not mold and how to keep it moist.

The supplies you will need for this adventure
- unopened himi gouache paints–this is most recommended because the paints are untouched. however, you can use already opened/used gouache but you will need to add more drops of clove oil to get rid of the bacteria and such from whatever water you used. results will vary for already opened gouache.
- clove bud oil–make sure it is clove bud oil and not regular clove oil. clove bud oil is made from the buds of cloves, so the oil is much more stronger and concentrated than clove oil made from the stick part of cloves. yes, it does make a difference.
- paleto knife or something to stir all of the jelly cups–there will be a ton of stirring in this process
- distilled water–zie uses the great value brand from walmart as it is affordable. must be distilled water. zie recommends pouring the water into a spray bottle.
- GLAD press & seal wrap–this is different than simple cling film. cling film is too fussy to work with and tears easily. press & seal is like magic as it seals everything just by pressing it to the surface. much easier to work with.
- tweezers–this helps opening the jelly gouache as they are ridiculously hard to open
- himi miya spray–this keeps the paints from drying out. if you don’t have this spray, then use more distilled water
here are all the necessary steps
- open all of the jelly cups. use tweezers during this process. you’ll thank zie later.
- stir every jelly cup really well after opening the cups
- add three drops of clove bud essential oil to each cup. stir the cups again.
- add one more drop of clove bud essential oil when you are about to paint with the himi gouache for the first time = 4 drops in total
- spray the jelly cups with himi miya spray. stir each of them afterwards. **if you paint with this gouache very often, spray and stir the cups with the himi spray more frequently
- at the end of each painting session, spray the cups with distilled water, then seal everything with glad press & seal
other little things to make note of
- paint with ONLY distilled water if you’re the kind of artiste who dips your brush into the jelly cups when selecting colors
- alternatively you can scoop out the colors you want to use with a paleto knife and place them on the paleto the himi gouache is packaged with. when done this way, you can use whatever water you want because you aren't using the paint in the jelly cups directly.
- paint with ONLY distilled water if you’re the kind of artiste who dips your brush into the jelly cups when selecting colors
- if you paint with a waterbrush, you have to load it with distilled water instead of regular water
hope this guide helps you with your himi gouache endeavours. zie wanted to create this as a way of always having on hand in case zie forgets how to do all this.
