Putting a twist on a common concept

After becoming frustrated with not being able to find a supplier of business cards that use either recycled paper or paper from sustainable forests, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I was inspired by Lindsay's (the frugal crafter) DIY Gel Printed Business cards. After seeing that blog article I got the idea to make my own business cards.

I love reading Lindsay’s blog. I’ve been a fan of hers since 2014. So, when I saw her article about how she made business cards, I got bit by the creative bug.

I didn’t want to make simple cards. Honestly, people toss out business cards all the time. With as many people requesting that I give them a card, I had to make a showstopper.

I looked at my cardboard and a light bulb popped above my head.

Why not make hand painted cards out of cardboard?

This solution had been staring me in the face for months, but I never saw it until now. I felt that people wouldn’t be so quick to toss out my business cards if I made them in a nontraditional way.

Using Blick Master Gesso, Artist’s Loft Gesso Brush, and my own cut out cardboard bases, I started to add my base layer coat to my cards. I also painted some cards as well. This has been a slow process as gesso takes forever to dry.

My painted cards are looking pretty and different. I can’t wait to fully paint both sides of my cards and also add my contact information. I simply want my business name and website address. Nothing too fancy

I haven’t forgotten about them! I just didn’t have luck at Walmart finding beads. I have some beads in my art studio, but I don’t think I have enough duplicates to make matching bobbin pairs. I’ll have to make a trip to Hobby Lobby to see what they have.
